--- Navajo Code Talker's Official Uniform ---

The official uniform of the Navajo Code Talker is a red cap, Navajo jewerly, gold shirt, patch on the upper-arm, light-colored trousers, and abalone-colored shoes. The significance of each item worn as the uniform of the code talker uniform is the following:

• Red cap denotes the U.S. Marine Corps.
• Jewlery represents the Diné.
• Gold shirt represents corn pollen.
• Patch represents which of the six U.S. Marine divisions each code talker was assigned.
• Light-colored trousers represents Mother Earth.
• Abalone-colored shoes represents the sacred mountains.

The Navajo Code Talkers have ownership to their trademark and dress code.

Some readers have written saying, "Was it OK to dress as Navajo Code Talkers for their student reports, for Native American Awareness month, or for Navajo Code Talkers' day?" Out of respect for our Navajo Code Talkers, we the descendants of the code talkers don't dress like code talkers. I wouldn't recommend anybody dressing as Navajo Code Talkers, especially if they are non-members. A lot has been taken from our American Indian traditions and belief. Non-Indians are practicing our belief and making replicas of our sacred items without understanding the significance of our belief and selling it to the world. Our Navajo Code Talkers wear their uniforms with "Honor", which was earn by them; it's not just another costume to wear. The colors in the uniform has sacred meaning.

Please be advised that "Navajo Code Talker" and "Navajo Code Talkers" is a registered trademark of the Navajo Code Talkers' Association. Any use of this phrase or any of its variations for commercial purposes except in the context of an individual Navajo Code Talker's person story may constitute an infringement of the mark of an unfair trade practice unless it has been approved by the Association. The Association has hired a public relations firm which is establishing an official Navajo Code Talkers Association website. The website will be up and running shortly. It will include among other things information about how to obtain appearances and interviews by or from the Navajo Code Talkers. By clicking on the hotlink (NCTA Scholarship Application Form) below and then saving it to your computer, or printing it out, you will then be able to apply for a NCTA Scholarship of $350 dollars. Before clicking, some basic requirements to get some scholarship funding for your education are that:

1. You need to be a descendant of a Navajo Code Talker.
2. You need to be an active member of the Navajo Code Talker Association (by paying their annual membership fee of $10 per year and participating in some form).
3. You need to submit the application with all required materials and also make the request in person at one of the NCTA meetings.

Letters should be as detail as possible with specifics on dates, travel/meals/lodging arrangements, honorariums, number of Codes talkers, travel arrangements for spouses, etc.

Some of the Navajo Code Talkers often do not travel because their spouses' travel costs are not covered. The Navajo Code Talkers prefer to have their spouses or another family member (child) along for several reasons:

• They are aging, all are over the mid-70s
• Security
• Hearing loss
• Translation needs
• Health issues
• Traveling is exhausting

Therefore, travel expenses for a travel companion must be picked up by the requester.

--- Navajo Code Talker's Schedule ---

Below is a schedule of events that the Navajo Code Talkers (NCT) will be attending. At most of these events, the code talkers will be on site, signing books, posters, and other items available for sale.

It is encouraged that children and grandchildren of NCT to start getting involved in these scheduled events, activities, etc. by representing their fathers and grandfathers. We have so much to be proud of.

Mar 5 - 7	Heard Museum Indian Market, Phoenix, AZ.
Mar 6	Maricopa County Library, Gilber, AZ. Special viewing of "True Whispers" with book sale along with a Question & Answer period. Maricopa County Library will donate $500 to assist with Saturday Night Dinner. Expected attendance to be 100 - 200.
May 22 - 25	WWII Veterans Memorial Dedication, Washington, D.C.
Aug	Santa Fe Indian Market, Santa Fe, NM.
Dec 1	Pueblo Grande Indian Market, Phoenix, AZ.

--- NCTA Proclamation In Response to Sept 11, 2001 Attack ---

In response to the terrorist attack on America, September 11, 2001, the Navajo Code Talker Association, at their NCTA meeting Thursday, Sept. 27, 2001, a proclamation was read and approved:

"PROCLAMATION OF THE NAVAJO CODE TALKERS ASSOCIATION DECLARING THE READINESS AND DESIRE OF THE NAVAJO CODE TALKERS TO SUPPORT THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA IN HIS ANTI-TERRORISM STANCE AND TO PROVIDE ASSISTANCE TO OUR GREAT AND BELOVED COUNTRY IN THIS TIME OF NATIONAL EMERGENCY."
