The microfilm list below can be obtained from the Family History Center of the LDS Church concerning information on Navajos who were born, lived, or died between 1885 and 1940. Each microfilm reel contains about 200 to 300 pages, and a generous amount of information on a person or family. Information on Navajos such as: names, census numbers, number of children in a family, dates of births, dates of deaths, head of household, wife's name, sons' names, and daughters' names can be found. The LDS church is the only logical place to start since it contains the largest genealogical resources in the world, and has Family History Centers at their LDS Temples. This information may be useful to those of Navajo heritage who are searching for their ancestors or descendants.
Write or get a print out of this site and go to a Family History Center in your local area to search for your ancestors. Be prepared to meet a young missionary (man or woman) who will ask you if you would like to know more about the LDS (Mormon) Church. Not all microfilm reels concerning Navajos is located at every Family History Center. Family History Centers located near the Navajo Nation contain microfilm reels on Navajos. Only the Salt Lake City Family History Center (in Salt Lake City, Utah) contains all the microfilm reels. Ordering a microfilm reel at your local Family History Center from Salt Lake takes about two weeks to arrive, and you can use it for about that amount of time.
