Dondo (Harrison Lapahie Jr.) graduated from Berendo Jr. High near downtown Los Angeles on June 14, 1970. Some of the people he remembered in the picture were Johnny Herrera (3rd person walking behind Dondo), Tusiyako (Terry) Saito (the tall Japanese-American girl with eye-glasses behind the flowers), Jackie Leu (the Japanese-American girl behind and to the right of microphone), Mr. Jaffe (top part of picture, on concrete stair, in white shirt and tie, holding his coat over his right shoulder).
Johnny Herrera, as mentioned in the Belmont Alumni Newsletter, became the owner of a construction company. Jackie Leu, as heard from Dondo's friends, went to UCLA. Dondo knew Terry Saito since kindergarden (at the age of 5) at Tenth Street Elementary School in downtown Los Angeles. As learned from the Belmont Alumni Newsletter, she married after graduating from Belmont High, had 3 kids, owned a restaurant and homes, but then divorced to re-married again. She became an executive with a Japanese firm, but then passed away at the age of 40 from cancer in 1995.
Mr. Jaffe, a Lithuanian American, was a History Teacher at Berendo Jr. High and one of Dondo's best friends as a Teacher. He wrote in Dondo's Aquarian 1970 Yearbook, "Don't wait for your ship to come in, go out and meet it. You have a bright future.".
